Game Drives at Mara River

Safaris in the Serengeti are highly sought after by first-timers and bush enthusiasts alike. Its vast wilderness and rich diversity of life mean there’s something exciting to see and learn every few feet. This makes game drives here incredibly special—and interactive. Our guides and trackers are passionate about sharing their extensive knowledge of the region’s landscape, ecosystem, and history. Game drives take place early in the morning and again in the evening.
We share the land around Mara River with a wide variety of wildlife, meaning there’s a good chance you’ll encounter cheetahs, Bat-eared foxes, Maasai giraffes, lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards, and, of course, wildebeest—known for their annual Great Migration—during your stay. You might also spot the rare Colobus monkey.
The Great Migration
There’s no ‘best’ time to visit the Serengeti to experience the migration. It’s an annual and year-round event, and its path varies based on weather patterns and other environmental factors. Typically, guests at Mara River can witness it between August and September, as the animals follow the rains north into the Maasai Mara.
